Facebook has just updated its messaging app. Starting today, Messenger will sort your conversations in tabs instead of having them in a confusing list.
Facebook Messenger is getting a new look. Tapping on one of the accounts will open the corresponding app. The update is turning the Messenger into a personal hub for connecting with all the people and businesses users care about. The new notification system may also be appearing in both the Instagram and Messenger apps, to allow users to move between each.
Facebook has certainly come a long way from back in the day where it was viewed as just another social network platform, the successor to older social networks like Friendster or MySpace. It would be disappointing if WhatsApp isn't included in this new pop-over cross-app switcher.
In the hope of making it as easy to use as possible, Facebook has given its Messenger app a makeover. It allows users to switch between these apps instantly and keeps them informed about the activities on their profiles in each of the apps.
According to Facebook VP David Marcus, a Discover tab will appear as well. This seems like another part of the company's strategy to ensure that users never leave their Facebook feed. These tabs, as one example, isolates users who are active that moment, making it easier to find who is online versus those who aren't now available.
Facebook has been constantly testing and rolling out new features on all its apps.
Merged notifications is now being tested for Facebook, Messenger and Instagram.
