A NY nursing student who missed his graduation because of delays on the city's subway has been thrown an improvised ceremony by his fellow commuters. The only difference? Alcantara was unable to make the actual ceremony due to massive train delays.
Although Alcantara missed the entirety of his graduation ceremony, it didn't stop his friends from throwing him a mock ceremony, which their fellow commuters also joined in on.
After realizing that unexpected train delays would cause him to miss his ceremony, Alcantara jokingly thanked strangers on the train for coming to his graduation.
The video shows the trapped passengers then congratulate, hug and chat with purple-clad alumnus as Green Day's "Time of Your Life" plays on portable speakers.More news: Verizon to cut 2000 jobs at Yahoo, AOL

When it became apparent he was not going to make it, his fellow straphangers chose to throw him his own graduaton ceremony.
"The emergency brakes went off, and the conductors couldn't fix it for like an hour and a half", Alcantara said. They threw him a graduation party inside the train itself!
"I think it ended up so much better than if I was on time".
"Everyone was really upset", Alcantara said of the other riders on the train.
So in true NY fashion, you make the most of what you've got, even if that means one of life's biggest moments has to go down on the E-train. He said some close friends from the nursing program told him to meet them in the auditorium.
