Newly appointed Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday hailed the presence of two women members in the crucial Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). The JD (U) and the Shiv Sena skipped the swearing-in ceremony while Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK attended it.
Career bureaucrats like former Home Secretary R.K. Singh, Hardeep Puri and Alphons Kannanthanam have been given portfolios like Power, Urban Housing and Tourism. As defence minister, Sitharaman makes it to the elite club of top 4 in the government and automatically becomes member of the Cabinet Committee on Security. For their performance, Piyush Goyal, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Dharmendra Pradhan were elevated.
The 58-year-old has previously served as a Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs.
In the reshuffle of the Council of Ministers, Prabhu was shifted from the Railways to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, while Goyal was made the Railway Minister and also given the task of handling the Coal portfolio as well. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore got a promotion when he was given the portfolio of Youth Affairs and Sports with independence charge which was taken away from Vijay Goel.

Giriraj Singh, who was MoS in Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises Ministry, got full charge of the ministry after the resignation of Cabinet Minister Kalraj Mishra.
