Agapornis is a band that was born in La Plata in mid-2011 and is characterized by reversing themes of all rhythms, transforming them into the genre "Cumbia Pop".
The band made this musical style fashionable that raises any encounter, conveys joy, celebration and good humor. He is composed by: Leandro (bass), Agustín (guiro), Joaquín (electric guitar), Juan (octapad), Santiago (timbales), Juan Cruz (keyboard), Juan Martin (voice and guitar), and Melina the only female member.
It all started at La Plata Rugby Club. There we met and generated our friendship. In March 2011 we went on tour to play South Africa and took with us a guitar and a guiro. We were singing at all airports, buses and even on the street. When we returned from the trip we decided to form a band in order to play in the parties or third times of our club. The idea was to carry popular and familiar themes that people listened to in their house at a danceable pace and thus move them to a party setting. So we started rehearsing and our first live performance was on May 24th in a third time of the club, obviously. There were our families and all our friends. It was a great night. "
Soon after, his impact transcended the limits of his expectations by becoming a social phenomenon.
Characterized with a red tie and white shirt, they put a personality to their shows differing from the traditional bands of tropical cumbia and forming an innovative identity.
"In the first shows we did not wear a shirt or tie . One day they called us to play in a wedding and as if to go more according to the situation we decided to put on white shirt, dress pants and ties, but of different colors. As we thought it aesthetically looked good, we thought of using it as dressing room for the shows unifying the color of the tie. Then one of the boys went to a school house to buy them. The choices were blue or red. Since that day we always used the red tie, and later almost without realizing we achieved a kind of trademark and identity. "
The diffusion and the impact they generated on social networks was a reflection of their fast growth. Their popularity spread to such a point that they began to be summoned in known bowls and private parties of other cities.
"People started asking for social networks that they wanted to listen to more topics, so every two months we came up with a new topic and quickly became viralized. Ordering shows did not stop. It was a kind of "snowball", fans on our facebook page and the reproductions of the themes rose second by second. "
Then they started calling them to interview them in graphic media, on television and radio programs.
This expansion of popularity spread throughout the country and began to play in other provinces.
"The first show outside Buenos Aires was in Cordoba Capital. We went to play a party that was made for the day of the friend in an amphitheater - Space Quality - and we found a mini stadium for 6 thousand people totally overwhelmed. There were people who had stayed outside without entrance who just wanted to see us. We could not believe what was happening, that's when we started to realize that the thing was serious. "
At the moment they stopped taking the band as a hobby putting it as a priority in their lives and taking it more seriously was from August 2012 when they signed a contract with the Sony Music Music Company. At the beginning of 2013 there was a change in Agapornis, since two of its members: Belén Condomi Alcorta (Voz Femenina) and Gonzalo Méndez (Guitar), decided to leave the band to dedicate to their university careers.
"We had to find someone who would replace them as an urgent medium because we had an extensive show schedule. On the guitar came Joaco Irigoyen, a friend of the club and guitarist of all life so it was easy to integrate, and as a singer Melina Lezcano. Meli contacted her through an acquaintance of the label. Already in the first trial with her we felt she was the one indicated. Besides being a great artist, we had a great vibe from the beginning and immediately joined the group as one more.
